Allama Muhammad Amin Shaheedi, head of Ummat-e-Wahida Pakistan, has praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team for their principled and balanced stance in support of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program during his recent joint press conference with the Iranian President in Tehran.
In a statement, Allama Shaheedi said the Prime Minister's remarks truly reflect the sentiments of the Pakistani people, asserting that every nation facing threats to its sovereignty has the right to pursue nuclear defense, just as Pakistan once did. “If five global powers are allowed to possess nuclear weapons, they cannot use that as justification to suppress weaker nations,” he added.
He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and based on meeting its domestic needs. Iran has consistently stated that it does not intend to build nuclear weapons, and that producing weapons of mass destruction is religiously forbidden (haram). “If Iran wanted to build weapons, the world could not stop it — but it has made it clear that its goals are not military,” he said.
Allama Shaheedi pointed out that the U.S., Israel, and European powers have repeatedly tried to obstruct Iran’s progress through sanctions and pressure tactics. In this context, Pakistan’s position — as expressed by PM Shehbaz Sharif — is both moderate and grounded in justice.
“I commend Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team for upholding a stance that is fair, dignified, and representative of regional solidarity,” he concluded.
